LAPIDARY
Gems Cutting and Polishing is called Lapidary and is an art in itself.

The Steps in Lapidary include:-

1. Understanding the nature of the Crystal Structure of the stone and the inclusion patterns and cutting the stone accordingly for the best produce in terms of quality and quantiy.

2. Pre-forming is the process of giving the stone a particular shape. Traditionally, it was completely done by hand as shown in the picture. Now a days semi-automated machines are being used to pre-form the stones.

3. Calibrating is the process in which the stones are glued in dopsticks and are then grinded in different type of grinders to the specified measurement.

4. Then the stones are faceted and polished in other type of grinders where it gains a high luster.

There after the stones are cleaned and then graded and priced as per the clarity and luster.
